Job Description
The Head of Government Affairs is responsible for developing and executing strategies to influence federal and state policies, build relationships with regulators and lawmakers, and advocate for regulatory reforms to accelerate geothermal energy development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of Zanskar's government affairs strategy at federal and state levels.
- Represent the company to legislative and administrative leaders to influence policy and permitting frameworks.
- Modernize regulatory landscape for geothermal exploration, development, and operations through policy reforms.
- Engage with geothermal coalitions, clean energy alliances, and advocacy groups to promote permitting reform and geothermal prioritization.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify and mitigate regulatory risks related to permitting, land access, and project development.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at federal and state agencies, including the Department of Energy, Department of the Interior, and congressional energy staff.
Requirements
- Experience in leading policy and regulatory strategy, representing a company to legislative and administrative leaders at both the federal and state levels.
- Ability to modernize the regulatory landscape for geothermal exploration, development, and operations by driving reforms that enable faster, more scalable deployment.
- Ownership of political and policy strategy, including leading engagement in geothermal coalitions, clean energy alliances, and advocacy groups to advance permitting reform and geothermal prioritization.
- Experience working cross-functionally with teams such as Land and Development to identify and address regulatory risks related to permitting, drilling, land access, and project development.
- Ability to build and execute a comprehensive government affairs strategy within six months that strengthens the company's presence across key federal and state agencies.
- Established relationships with senior stakeholders at the Department of Energy, Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, congressional energy staff, and relevant state regulatory bodies.
- Strong political instincts, bipartisan mindset, and passion for making policy work in service of innovation.

Compensation/salary range: 135K - 205K
Work schedule: Full-time
