Job Description
The Senior Power Conversion Engineer is responsible for ensuring the performance, reliability, and lifecycle management of power conversion systems such as inverters and battery energy storage systems across the company's renewable energy fleet, providing technical expertise, troubleshooting, and vendor coordination to optimize system operation and resolve complex issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the performance, reliability, and lifecycle management of inverter and BESS systems across the fleet.
- Lead troubleshooting, resolution of systemic and site-specific issues, and perform root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with vendors and cross-functional teams to diagnose, address, and resolve technical problems.
- Develop strategies for system lifecycle management, including spare parts planning, upgrades, and monitoring.
- Review and validate firmware, controls, and operating parameters to ensure system performance and grid compliance.
- Support long-term planning for component replacements and fleet upgrades.
- Drive reliability improvements through preventive maintenance, failure trend analysis, and standardization.
- Provide operational insights for equipment selection, commissioning, and project turnover.
- Identify design or operational deficiencies and communicate findings to relevant teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years working with power conversion systems, including solar inverters and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Strong field experience troubleshooting inverter and/or BESS systems.
- Experience working with vendors and cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues.
- Strong understanding of inverter technologies, BESS systems, and AC power systems.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to power conversion systems.
- Experience with root cause analysis and reliability practices.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence outcomes across teams.
- Ability to operate at both site and fleet levels, connecting on-site issues to broader system impacts.
- Comfortable owning complex problems and driving them to resolution.
