Job Description
The role involves managing land and real estate aspects for utility-scale renewable energy and data center projects, including site control, title clearance, negotiations, and supporting project development, financing, and operations across multiple states.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and cure title issues, obtain crossing agreements, access and utility easements, and resolve mineral severances for project sites.
- Collaborate with underwriters, counsel, and experts to de-risk projects and secure title insurance at key milestones.
- Negotiate and draft site control agreements, including options, purchase agreements, and leases with landowners and stakeholders.
- Lead real property closings, managing outside counsel and team members throughout the process.
- Coordinate with legal, grid integration, and capital markets teams on real estate matters from project inception to asset management.
- Manage external counsel and consultants, including scope of work, contracts, and quality review.
- Support project financing activities related to real estate, including deliverables, conditions, and construction draws.
- Maintain relationships with investors, real estate counsel, authorities, property owners, and other stakeholders.
- Assist project development with schedules and budgets related to real estate assets.
- Oversee real estate asset compliance and risk management across the project lifecycle, including portfolio management, tax, and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree and either a graduate degree or paralegal studies experience in land, regulation, real property transactions, and/or renewable energy; J.D. is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 8 years of professional experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in real estate title, and/or renewable energy data center project development.
- At least 3 years of practicing law, either in-house or in a law firm, focused on real estate with familiarity of utility-scale solar or other renewables origination development processes.
- Direct experience in the renewable energy industry, whether as counsel or in another role, in two or more of the markets ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SWPP, NEISO, or NYISO.
- Experience managing land and real estate assets through financial close, with knowledge of project financing, pre-construction requirements, lender requirements, and the ability to stay current with legal and regulatory changes impacting real property assets in the renewable energy and data center sectors.
- Strong ability to draft, read, review, and negotiate contracts, alongside SBE Legal or other teams, both internal and external to SB Energy.
- Ability and flexibility to manage multiple work streams with different paces, objectives, and timeframes from a business and risk management perspective.
- Strong sense of ownership over individual contributions and team success.

Compensation/salary range: $140,000 - $190,000 with potential discretionary annual bonus
