Job Description

The role involves overseeing and ensuring the quality of data center construction projects from start to completion, including developing quality management systems, conducting inspections, managing vendors, and coordinating commissioning to deliver reliable and high-standard mission-critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the quality of data center construction from NTP to COD, ensuring compliance with established standards and requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001, including defining QA policies, inspection regimes, and escalation pathways.
  • Lead constructability, coordination, and quality reviews of electrical, mechanical, structural systems, and construction drawings to ensure conformance with project specifications.
  • Oversee project-level QA/QC teams and third-party inspectors, defining inspection and test plans for critical systems and materials.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis for defects, non-conformances, and field failures, and ensure timely resolution with corrective actions.
  • Perform quality control testing and inspections in accordance with contract requirements and best practices.
  • Ensure quality continuity during construction, testing, and commissioning phases, including validation of performance testing and punch-list resolution.
  • Lead handover and turnover processes, ensuring documentation and testing meet operational standards and client requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Electrical, Mechanical, or Structural required
  • 12 years in quality, engineering, commissioning, or construction leadership within Data centers, Semiconductor fabs, Power generation or other mission-critical infrastructure
  • Demonstrated authority interacting with EPCs, designers, and hyperscale clients
  • Proven ability to identify latent defects and systemic risks before they reach operations
  • Experience in design-build and fast-track delivery models
  • Technical knowledge of mission-critical electrical systems up to and including medium-voltage distribution
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical cooling systems for high-density and liquid-cooled environments
  • Knowledge of redundancy architectures N, N+1, 2N, distributed redundancy
  • Understanding of commissioning methodologies and failure-mode testing
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards including NEC, NFPA, IBC, IFC, IEEE, ASHRAE, ASME, Uptime Institute, TIA-942 concepts
  • Location preference for San Francisco Bay Area, CA or TX with hybrid work arrangement
  • Ability to establish and maintain a developer-wide Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001 principles
  • Ability to define QA policies, inspection regimes, acceptance criteria, and escalation pathways for all projects
  • Serve as final technical authority on quality disputes between designers, contractors, vendors, and commissioning agents
  • Thorough understanding of EPC contracts, specifically the quality portion, to assist in developing onsite procedures
  • Experience qualifying and auditing critical equipment vendors such as switchgear, generators, UPS, cooling systems
  • Ability to review factory acceptance testing (FAT) protocols and results
  • Ability to establish performance benchmarks and corrective-action expectations for suppliers
  • Experience leading constructability, coordination, and quality reviews of electrical one-lines, protection studies, grounding, arc-flash mitigation, mechanical systems, structural systems, and verifying alignment with Basis of Design (BOD) and Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR)
  • Experience overseeing project-level QA/QC teams and third-party inspectors
  • Ability to define inspection and test plans (ITPs) for critical systems including medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, UPS, generators, cooling plants, CRAHs, CDUs, piping systems, fire protection, and life safety systems
  • Experience auditing contractor QC programs, subcontractor workmanship, and material traceability
  • Ability to lead root-cause analysis for defects, non-conformances, and field failures
  • Experience reviewing project submittal logs and quality control reports
  • Ability to lead weekly quality review meetings and provide weekly reports and metrics on project conformance
  • Experience performing quality control testing and inspections in adherence to contract requirements and best practices
  • Ability to manage and validate closure of non-conformances and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions)
  • Experience driving lessons learned and continuous improvements during construction
  • Ability to oversee project turnover, including punch-list resolution, deficiency closure, and readiness for client acceptance
  • Experience ensuring quality continuity from construction into integrated systems testing (IST) and commissioning
  • Ability to validate functional performance testing reflecting real-world operating scenarios and failure modes
  • Ownership of the quality scope of the data center project from Notice to Proceed (NTP) to Commercial Operation Date (COD)
  • Experience co-leading Handover-Turnover (HOTO) processes prior to project hand-off to Operations & Maintenance (O&M)
  • Possession of a PE license (preferred)
  • Certifications in commissioning or quality such as CxA, PMP, ISO lead auditor (preferred)
  • Knowledge of applicable standards including NEC, NFPA, IBC, IFC, IEEE, ASHRAE, ASME, Uptime Institute, TIA-942 (formal certification not required)
