Job Description
The Lab Technician role involves supporting engineering initiatives through testing, troubleshooting, data collection, and maintaining lab equipment for Samsara's IoT hardware products, primarily in a hands-on, on-site environment in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute test plans and perform reliability experiments on hardware devices.
- Assist with device troubleshooting, data collection, and root-cause analysis.
- Build, maintain, and organize test stations, fixtures, and lab equipment.
- Assemble prototypes, wire harnesses, and install equipment for testing.
- Support engineers by defining and executing tests, experiments, and validation procedures.
Requirements
- Ability to work at Samsara's San Francisco office 5 days a week.
- 1-2 years of experience working in a shop, lab, or test environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and read and understand documented procedures.
- Working knowledge of common lab and shop tools, including hand tools, power tools, drill presses, belt sanders, and basic electrical tools.
- Experience using, or willingness to learn to use, a variety of test and measurement instruments, such as microscopes, data acquisition (DAQ) systems, thermal chambers, oscilloscopes, and optical tools.
- Experience operating vehicles and equipment such as forklifts, box trucks, and pickup trucks, or willingness to learn to operate them.
- Strong attention to detail when documenting procedures and test results.
- Working proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities.
- Familiarity with electronic troubleshooting and soldering (preferred but not mandatory).
- Mechanical aptitude, with hands-on experience working on or around vehicles (preferred but not mandatory).
- Experience with 3D printers and/or basic prototyping (preferred but not mandatory).
- Exposure to hands-on testing and data acquisition equipment (preferred but not mandatory).
- Basic familiarity with command-line tools (preferred but not mandatory).
