Job Description

The Engineer VWBA supports the development and implementation of water benefits projects focused on ecosystem restoration and water resource management, involving hydrologic modeling, site assessment, data analysis, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable water solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, quantifying, and documenting volumetric water benefits across recharge, stormwater, and water quality projects.
  • Support basin screening, site selection, and feasibility analysis for water projects.
  • Prepare standardized calculations, models, and plans for VWBA and WQBA methodologies.
  • Conduct field verification, site data collection, and hydrologic analysis to support project execution.
  • Collaborate with engineering, scientific, hydrogeological, GIS, and regional teams to ensure accurate and defensible project data.
  • Develop hydrologic and hydraulic models using relevant tools such as AutoCAD, FlowMaster, HEC RAS, GIS, HEC-HMS, and PCSWMM.
  • Compile and organize hydrological, soils, and infrastructure data to support project designs.
  • Support proposal development by preparing figures, narratives, and organizing data for review.
  • Assist with early-stage site scoring workflows, including soil, floodplain, slope, and land use assessments.
  • Maintain project documentation, including assumptions, data sources, and calculation logs, in compliance with standards.
  • Contribute to QA/QC processes, data organization, and report writing for engineering assessments.
  • Participate in team meetings, contribute to problem-solving, risk management, and scope definition.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers on VWBA methodologies and processes.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering from an accredited program e.g., Water Resources, Civil, Environmental or Hydrogeology
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in hydrology, stormwater, restoration, or groundwater recharge coursework in GIS and data analysis
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in water resources, stormwater, restoration, or related field
  • Internship or co-op experience in hydrology, stormwater, restoration, or groundwater recharge (acceptable)
  • Exposure to VWBA WQBA frameworks and M V planning (preferred)
  • Understanding of data center water stewardship needs, high volume recharge requirements, and region-specific constraints permitting, aquifer sensitivity, floodplain dynamics
  • Ability to understand VWBA 2.0 WQBA and defend assumptions under audit (e.g., LimnoTech review)
  • Foundational knowledge of VWBA pathways and recharge concepts aligned with water restoration principles
  • Awareness of tradeoffs among D4, D5, D6, D7 methods for yield, defensibility, and cost
  • Basic proficiency with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools such as HEC RAS, HEC-HMS, FlowMaster, PCSWMM, and GIS to compile datasets and translate into calculator inputs and design parameters
  • Understanding of M V principles and data traceability for audit-ready documentation
  • Ability to frame technical work for proposals and communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders through concise written and verbal communication
