Job Description

A full-time Restoration Technician responsible for ecological restoration projects such as wetland planting, invasive species removal, and erosion control, primarily working outdoors to restore ecosystems and protect natural resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plant, seed, and install erosion and sedimentation control measures
  • Remove invasive plant species and manage invasive species control methods
  • Operate light equipment such as chainsaws, brush cutters, augers, and sprayers
  • Apply herbicide to control invasive species
  • Perform habitat restoration activities including planting, seeding, and erosion control
  • Transport and operate vehicles and machinery including UTVs, tractors, skid steers, and trucks with trailers

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Ability to operate and adapt within a team as a team player
  • Keen interest in natural resources and outdoors
  • Preferably with some experience working in the natural resources field
  • Prior experience performing native seed and plant installation, including erosion control measures
  • Native plant identification knowledge
  • Prior experience spraying herbicide and the ability to study for and pass a test to become a licensed Pesticide Applicator
  • Experience with repair and maintenance of small engines and equipment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a FedMed Certificate and drive truck and trailer
  • Work on a variety of projects including green infrastructure, wetland restoration, planting, and invasive plant removal management
  • Work seasonally steady and over 40 hours per week
  • Occasional travel may be required for some projects
  • Perform field work including planting, seeding, installing erosion and sedimentation control blanketing, brush cutting, operating light equipment, and applying herbicide
  • Ability to carry equipment such as chainsaws, gas-powered brush cutters, augers, or a sprayer up to 50 lbs
  • Operate UTVs, tractors, skid steers, and trucks with trailers as needed
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including exposure to insects such as ticks and mosquitoes, and poisonous plants such as poison ivy
  • Walk long distances while carrying equipment
