Job Description
A Field Customer Quality Engineer responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware and system failures in data center storage and server systems, ensuring product quality, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve hardware resilience and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead rapid-response investigations into hardware and system failures to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Manage end-to-end Stop Ship and Purge protocols for critical defects, coordinating with design, firmware, and supply chain teams.
- Serve as the technical liaison for high-severity customer events, providing clear recovery strategies and risk assessments.
- Contribute to product evolution by translating real-world performance data and lessons learned into new product design phases.
Requirements
- Experience in leading rapid-response investigations into complex hardware and system-level failures, utilizing deep-dive forensics such as X-ray and EDX to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Ability to own the end-to-end Stop Ship and Purge protocols when critical defects arise, managing cross-functional execution across Hardware Design, BIOS Firmware, and Supply Chain teams to protect the customer experience.
- Serve as the authoritative technical liaison for high-severity events, translating intricate engineering data into transparent, executive-level recovery strategies and risk assessments.
- Experience in influencing product evolution by providing real-world performance metrics and Lessons Learned feedback into New Product Introduction (NPI) phases to influence the design of next-generation high-performance architectures.
- Mastery of PCBA integrity, including SMT assembly processes and IPC standards, with the ability to diagnose complex failure modes such as signal integrity issues or via failures.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot high-speed server architectures (x86), PCIe protocols, and storage interfaces such as NVMe, SAS, or SATA within a data center context.
- Ability to pivot instantly from long-term quality projects to urgent field investigations, driving multi-disciplinary teams toward rapid resolution using structured methodologies like 8D or 5-Why.
- Exceptional ability to synthesize technical data for diverse stakeholders, gaining cooperation in sensitive, high-pressure situations to reach favorable outcomes for both the customer and the business.
- Willingness to work onsite at the Houston, TX office in compliance with company policies, unless on PTO, work travel, or other approved leave.
