Job Description

This role involves designing, creating, and reviewing fire alarm and sprinkler system layouts, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, coordinating with other trades, and providing technical support and documentation for fire protection systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare fire alarm and sprinkler system drawings based on plans and specifications without supervision.
  • Create fire alarm and sprinkler layouts, including determining power supply, load requirements, and hydraulic calculations.
  • Survey and verify existing conditions support fire alarm and sprinkler system design requirements.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other disciplines and trades involved in the project.
  • Conduct code reviews, investigations, and produce code summary sheets with interpretation for junior staff.
  • Document correspondence with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and project team.
  • Maintain current technical knowledge through reading manuals, bulletins, and product brochures.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment according to OSHA and company policies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years experience as a Fire Alarm or Fire Sprinkler Designer preferred.
  • NICET III certification.
  • Valid state issued driver s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to prepare drawings through gathering information from plans and specifications without assistance.
  • Ability to accurately input data equipment, and fire alarm sprinkler devices equipment without supervision.
  • Ability to create fire alarm system and fire sprinkler layout, and determine power supply, loading requirements, and hydro calculations for fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems.
  • Ability to survey and identify existing conditions to verify that they support the requirements of the fire alarm system and fire sprinkler design and layout.
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate with other disciplines and trades.
  • Ability to complete code review and investigations, produce code summary sheets, and provide interpretation for junior staff.
  • Ability to identify document design standards, codes, and local amendments.
  • Ability to document correspondences with AHJs and project team.
  • Ability to ensure all internal and external customers and co-workers receive outstanding service.
  • Ability to stay current with technical aspects of the job by reading technical manuals, bulletins, product brochures, etc.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and secure work environment by following OSHA and company safety programs.
  • Ability to adhere to company policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations and laws.
  • Ability to maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Ability to respect and take direction from the manager.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health.
  • Ability to perform basic math including fractions, percentages, decimals, and basic algebra.
  • Proficiency in operating basic computer functions, operating systems, and software applications such as Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Apple IOS, and Android.
  • Advanced skills in Word and Excel, such as importing data and working with pivot tables.
  • Ability to learn and use industry-specific devices and software such as AutoCAD or Revit- Bluebeam.
  • Access to a plotter and drawing table.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted materials such as files, books, office equipment, etc.
  • Physical ability to push or pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, and stretch regularly.
  • Physical ability to use hands and fingers to type, dial, or operate office equipment.
  • Ability to walk considerable distances and traverse uneven terrain occasionally.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods.
  • Visual abilities including close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to respond quickly to sounds and see/respond to dangerous situations.
  • Ability to work with interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Position is eligible for remote work with manager approval, requiring a quiet, safe home office setup, high-speed internet, and data protection.
  • Minimal travel required, less than 5% of the time, including occasional travel between worksites.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
