Job Description

The Development Manager oversees all aspects of solar and energy storage project development, including permitting, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination, to ensure successful project execution from inception through construction within a renewable energy company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of solar and BESS project development, including land rights, permits, interconnection, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Coordinate activities with internal teams and external consultants to secure regulatory, siting, and environmental approvals.
  • Develop and oversee project schedules, budgets, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Negotiate permits and agreements with regulatory agencies, landowners, and community stakeholders.
  • Engage with authorities, utilities, and external organizations to advance projects and maintain relationships.
  • Review engineering designs, environmental assessments, utility interconnection studies, and real estate documents.
  • Manage project budgets, expenses, accounts receivable, and payable.
  • Lead project reporting, including progress updates, financial analysis, and documentation preparation.
  • Support land acquisition efforts through site negotiations and real estate campaigns.
  • Select and manage subcontractors and vendors, ensuring quality, value, and diversity standards.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • 2 years of project management experience in renewable energy, real estate, and or a land use related field.
  • Prior experience with BESS project development strongly preferred.
  • Excellent PC computer skills and familiarity with MS Office and Windows.
  • Experience with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of renewable energy project development from project inception through construction.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of organizational capacity to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent quantitative analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • A proven ability to provide efficient, timely, and reliable service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with developing stakeholder relationships and working with permitting authorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities often across functional and operational lines.
  • Ability to contribute to an amicable working environment with colleagues.
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and stress while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
  • High-degree of organization and time-management skills.
  • The proven ability to create and manage schedules and budgets to required margins.
  • Must have a roll up your sleeves and let’s get the job done right type attitude.
  • Ability to travel and access sites of varying terrain.
  • Position requires frequent travel, up to 1-2 weeks per month or about of working time.
  • Must carry an active driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
