Job Description

The CFO will lead financial management, planning, and operations for Octopus Energy Services, supporting the rollout of low carbon technologies across the UK, while managing teams and operational complexities to drive growth and market innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead core finance functions including financial management accounting, operations, risk, and pricing.
  • Support strategic financial planning and analysis.
  • Partner with senior leaders across low carbon tech, flexibility, and manufacturing teams.
  • Oversee performance, planning, and development of the finance team.
  • Manage operational aspects such as supply chains, depots, and demand flexibility.
  • Balance margin, cash flow, and volume scaling while protecting unit economics.

Requirements

  • Experience as a CFO or in a senior finance leadership role with a proven track record of leading core finance functions including Financial Management Accounting, Financial Operations, Financial Risk, and Pricing.
  • Ability to support and lead financial planning activities as part of a Strategic Finance team.
  • Experience working in or with low carbon technologies, renewable energy, or related sectors, with an understanding of the deployment and scaling of low carbon installations.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience leading and developing a team of exceptional finance professionals to unlock their full potential.
  • Ability to manage performance, planning, and development across finance functions.
  • Experience balancing margin, cash flow, and scaling volume rapidly while protecting unit economics during growth phases.
  • Operational experience managing engineers, supply chains, depots, and demand flexibility in a high-complexity environment.
  • Comfortable challenging conventional thinking and managing operational demands that involve engineers across the country, supply chains, and inventory management.
  • Ability to think like an owner, with a mindset focused on building for growth and significant deployment of low carbon technologies.
  • Experience working closely with senior leadership, including CEOs, Co-Founders, and other senior leaders across technical and manufacturing teams.
  • Proven ability to manage financial risk and ensure financial performance aligns with strategic objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Relevant educational background in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field (specific degree requirements are not explicitly stated but implied by seniority).
