Job Description
The Senior Revenue Accountant at LevelTen Energy is responsible for managing revenue recognition for SaaS and software contracts, ensuring compliance with ASC 606, and supporting revenue processes, controls, and system enhancements in a fast-growing renewable energy technology company.
Key Responsibilities
- Own revenue recognition for SaaS, software contracts, and transaction fee agreements in accordance with ASC 606.
- Perform detailed contract reviews to identify performance obligations, determine transaction prices, and allocate revenue.
- Prepare and review revenue-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly close analyses.
- Monitor contract milestones and ensure timely and accurate invoicing in coordination with Billing and Sales Operations.
- Support and enhance the order-to-cash process, including internal controls and scalability.
- Serve as a key partner for revenue-related system enhancements and implementations.
- Support external audits by preparing schedules, responding to inquiries, and addressing revenue findings.
- Monitor and account for sales commissions and contract acquisition costs.
- Assist with sales tax compliance related to SaaS and software revenue.
- Drive continuous improvement and automation of revenue accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
Requirements
- Active or inactive CPA designation
- At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including significant experience with SaaS or software revenue recognition
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, with deep, hands-on expertise in ASC 606 for software and SaaS companies
- Proven experience in an early-stage or high-growth technology company environment
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex software contracts and apply judgment in ambiguous ASC 606 scenarios
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical accounting concepts to non-finance stakeholders
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort working across accounting systems and revenue tools
- Ability to perform detailed contract reviews to identify performance obligations, determine transaction price, assess variable consideration, and allocate revenue appropriately
- Ability to prepare and review revenue-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly close analyses for assigned areas
- Ability to evaluate and document revenue recognition positions through robust technical memos and policy documentation
- Ability to monitor contract milestones and ensure timely and accurate invoicing in coordination with Billing and Sales Operations
- Ability to support and enhance the order-to-cash process, including internal controls, documentation, and scalability
- Experience supporting external audits by preparing PBC schedules, responding to auditor inquiries, and addressing revenue-related findings
- Experience monitoring and accounting for sales commissions and contract acquisition costs in accordance with ASC 606 and ASC 340-40
- Experience assisting with sales tax compliance related to SaaS and software revenue
- Ability to drive continuous improvement and automation of revenue accounting processes, controls, and reporting
- Partnering cross-functionally on ad hoc projects supporting finance, accounting, and business operations
