Job Description
The role involves leading policy and regulatory efforts to support the growth of distributed energy resources and demand-side management programs, advocating for utility reforms, and shaping industry standards to enable a cleaner, more flexible energy grid.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute regulatory and legislative engagement strategies across North America, focusing on grid modernization, DER, and energy policies.
- Lead engagement in public utility commission proceedings and legislative sessions to scale customer programs and advocate for demand flexibility reforms.
- Represent EnergyHub in industry forums, thought leadership, and trade associations to influence policy and market trends.
- Monitor and brief senior leadership on regulatory trends and policy developments to inform product and business strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate new business models and programs aligned with policy initiatives.
- Research and develop expertise in regulatory topics to promote grid-edge resources and DER programs.
- Create thought leadership content and coordinate with external consultants to support policy positions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) with 4-7 years of work experience, including at least 2 years in the energy sector.
- Familiarity with the electricity industry and utility business model, including understanding of key trends and stakeholder landscape.
- Experience with federal, statewide, and utility electric vehicle initiatives.
- Basic understanding of distribution system management.
- Ability to draft and copy edit regulatory comments, media, blogs, and customer-facing marketing and sales content.
- Experience using Excel, Salesforce, Tableau, or other software tools to analyze and visualize data.
- Experience in the energy and utilities industry, with a total of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with energy efficiency and demand-side management technologies and regulations.
- Familiarity with utility programs and regulatory concepts.
- Experience participating in utility stakeholder proceedings or working groups.
- Experience researching and analyzing the market impact of new policies, regulations, and program implementation rules.
- Ability to develop and execute regulatory and legislative engagement strategies for North America, with potential focus on eastern and central regions.
- Ability to prioritize high-leverage advocacy opportunities related to grid modernization, integrated resource planning, demand-side management, transportation electrification, energy storage, rate cases, state and federal legislation, and grant programs.
- Participation in integrated resource planning, virtual power plant potential studies, and distribution system planning cycles to promote demand-side resources and virtual power plants in long-term grid planning.
- Ability to educate regulators and advocate for the role of software and DERMS in facilitating demand flexibility through utility-led programs and rates.
- Representation of EnergyHub as a thought leader in electric vehicle program design to ensure managed charging programs monetize the full grid value of EV assets.
- Tracking national and state regulatory trends and briefing senior leadership and internal stakeholders to support product roadmap planning.
- Leading cross-functional efforts to evaluate new business models or program ideas in response to federal or state policy initiatives.
- Researching and gaining expertise in regulatory topics that can accelerate the adoption of grid-edge resources and related programs.
- Fostering relationships with trade associations and representing EnergyHub at industry conferences.
- Working with Product Marketing to create thought leadership materials such as blog posts and white papers, and onboarding outside consultants for advocacy materials where appropriate.
