Job Description

This role is a senior design leadership position responsible for guiding innovative architectural projects, mentoring teams, developing client relationships, and promoting design excellence within a collaborative and sustainable practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design development and communicate design goals to clients and teams throughout all project phases.
  • Collaborate with strategic thinkers to co-lead visioning and set conceptual direction.
  • Ensure design quality across all project phases through team collaboration.
  • Create and present innovative design concepts that align with client culture, goals, and societal needs.
  • Prepare and lead client presentations to convey design ideas effectively.
  • Capture and communicate client goals and demonstrate how design solutions add value.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications to promote the firm's work.
  • Integrate sustainable and performance-based design strategies, including decarbonization and AIA 2030 commitments.
  • Contribute to the firm's portfolio by submitting work for awards and publications.
  • Mentor and develop emerging professionals to foster a strong design culture.
  • Recruit, retain, and build high-performance design teams.
  • Lead by example to promote innovation, collaboration, and design excellence within the firm.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, building trust and loyalty.
  • Identify and pursue new client opportunities in collaboration with business development teams.
  • Participate in client and project pursuit strategies from initial targeting through proposal and interviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Architecture required.
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Architecture from an accredited program preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a design leadership role.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading others in a design studio or design practice segment.
  • Current US Architectural Registration preferred.
  • Design portfolio of significant built and unbuilt work.
  • Third party recognition of work as a lead or supporting design role by local, regional, or national design awards programs and recognized design publications or digital platforms is preferred.
  • Strong oral presentation and storytelling skills required.
  • Must be able to understand and execute business strategy.
  • Must have professional acumen and maturity demonstrated by the ability to communicate authentically and respectfully.
  • Travel required.
