Job Description

This senior leadership role involves developing and executing strategic plans to grow and lead the San Diego and Irvine offices of CannonDesign, focusing on business development, client engagement, fostering a collaborative and inclusive design culture, and representing the firm's Living-Centered Design ethos.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic business plan for the office to support growth and top-line results.
  • Provide leadership and support to Office and Market Leaders to develop new business opportunities and achieve revenue targets.
  • Engage in high-level client leadership and project engagement to foster strong client relationships.
  • Lead strategy development and execution to advance entrepreneurial opportunities and market solutions.
  • Promote and elevate the office and firm brand within the community and industry.
  • Foster a design-focused culture emphasizing diversity, equity, inclusion, and innovation.
  • Manage and oversee the overall top-line results of the office, including client development and revenue growth.
  • Identify, assess, and mentor client leaders to enhance client engagement processes.
  • Build and develop a strong leadership team capable of expanding impact and growth.
  • Champion best practices in project management, risk management, and office profitability.
  • Communicate effectively within the firm to ensure alignment and collaboration across teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 15 years minimum experience with a proven track record of business development success and top-line growth.
  • Proven ability to develop and lead a high-performance, diverse, and inclusive leadership team for the San Diego and Irvine California offices.
  • Experience in developing and implementing a strategic business plan for an office, including strategies for growth, branding, and client engagement.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategies that achieve a minimum of 10% annual office growth.
  • Experience in identifying, assessing, and evaluating client leaders and implementing client engagement processes, including providing mentorship and training to advance client leadership practices.
  • Experience in evaluating and addressing senior talent needs to build a strong leadership team capable of expanding impact and growth.
  • Ability to establish actions to implement the firm’s business plan to grow top line revenue, optimize collaboration and integration, and expand markets and services.
  • Experience in championing and mentoring staff development, including identifying, assessing, mentoring, and coaching employees to develop future leaders.
  • Ability to partner with Human Resources, Market, and Office Leaders to promote employee engagement activities and own results.
  • Partnering with the Regional Process Director and Business Practice Leader to champion best practices in project management, risk management, process improvement, project leadership, and office profitability.
  • Effective communication skills to represent office leadership and staff in firm-wide meetings, conferences, and internal communication processes.
  • Willingness and ability to dedicate approximately 45% of work time to activities that advance the firm's brand and develop new business opportunities.
  • Willingness and ability to dedicate approximately 30% of work time to engaging and partnering with clients on billable project work, including providing high-level leadership and fostering strong client relationships.
  • Willingness and ability to dedicate approximately 15% of work time to office leadership activities such as strategy development, practice and market building, business practice support, recruiting, and staff development.
  • Effective communication skills to develop and execute internal communication processes to keep staff informed and foster collaboration.
  • Ability to demonstrate ownership and accountability, champion an ethical culture, and demonstrate sound judgment regarding risk management and mitigation.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to execute strategy effectively.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Effective leadership skills that energize, inspire, motivate, and develop high-performing, accountable teams.
  • Ability to champion Living-Centered Design ethos and demonstrate commitment to the firm’s purpose of helping people flourish.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, show fairness in actions and decisions, and prioritize the firm’s interests.
  • Sound judgment and approach regarding risk management and mitigation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of staff and leadership.
