Job Description
The role involves designing and managing land development projects, including site layout, utility, roadway, and grading design, as well as providing permitting, cost estimation, and construction support, primarily within civil engineering for various types of development projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop site layouts, utility, roadway, and grading plans for land development projects
- Prepare permit applications and assist with regulatory compliance and entitlement processes
- Conduct feasibility studies, master planning, and design of water, sanitary, storm sewer, paving, and detention facilities
- Estimate project costs, prepare design calculations, and review project specifications
- Assist in preparing proposals, project schedules, budgets, and billing
- Mentor and delegate tasks to Staff Engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Participate in business development and represent the firm at client and municipal meetings
- Support construction activities through review and preparation of final drawings and technical documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in land development or related engineering fields.
- Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Strong understanding of local governmental public and private development codes.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Outstanding writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to prepare engineer’s opinion of probable cost, design calculations, permit applications, feasibility studies, master planning, and engineering design for water, sanitary, storm sewer, paving, and detention facilities.
- Ability to assist in preparation of proposals for engineering services and review and prepare project specifications.
- Ability to assist in the production of final construction drawings.
- Ability to mentor and assist with training Staff Engineers.
- Ability to delegate specific project components to Staff Engineers.
- Ability to work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
- Ability to manage project schedules and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Ability to participate in business development activities.
- Ability to professionally represent the firm at client and municipal meetings and hearings.
- Ability to prepare and monitor project budgets, billing, and accounts receivable.
- Physical ability to frequently sit and talk or hear, and occasionally stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
