Job Description
The Manual Lathe Machinist position involves machining turbine engine components to precise specifications using Manual VTL equipment, requiring extensive experience and technical skills. The role includes operating machinery, inspecting parts, and collaborating with a team of skilled machinists in a modern, climate-controlled facility.
Responsibilities
- •Follow written and verbal work instructions to inspect parts and determine required material removal.
- •Operate machines to remove material to achieve specified dimensions.
- •Use inspection gauges and tools to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- •Identify and correct machining problems related to tools and fixtures.
- •Accurately record findings on work instructions and documentation.
- •Perform finishing operations such as deburring, tapping, and honing.
- •Participate in training and provide expertise in the OJT program.
Requirements
- •Five plus years of experience in the operation of Manual Turret Lathe VTL equipment in a job shop type environment, including first article experience.
- •Creative problem-solving skills related to machine setups, VTL and lathe tooling, and securing and fixturing of work pieces.
- •Firm understanding of GD&T, critical dimensioning, the relationship between dimensions, and technical drawing reading and interpretation.
- •Ability to indicate fixtures and parts to achieve required runouts, including understanding timing or rotational values, existing features to create machining starting points, and how to create a flat plane for the start of machining.
- •Rework experience.
- •Technical high school diploma, machinist trade school, or equivalent work experience.
- •Set-up experience with tooling and fixtures with the ability to follow instructions per technical drawings or work instructions.
- •Familiarity with shop math principles and basic trigonometry.
- •Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to communicate effectively with other employees.
- •Ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift and move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
- •Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
- •Follow general shop safety procedures, including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
