Job Description
The Surface Prep Technician supports the thermal spray team by preparing turbine engine parts through masking, trimming, and inspection tasks, while learning about thermal spray processes in a modern, climate-controlled facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare turbine engine parts for dimensional restoration by conducting pre- and post-application tasks.
- Apply and trim masking materials on components to protect surfaces during subsequent operations.
- Gather, set up, and operate tooling such as fixtures and gauges as per work instructions.
- Inspect work for quality and completeness, ensuring adherence to detailed work instructions and drawings.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Requirements
- High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
- Careful attention to detail.
- Technical aptitude.
- The ability to learn to read and interpret shop drawings and diagrams.
- Capable of learning the use of measuring gages, such as micrometers and calipers, and the understanding of basic shop math.
- Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must be able to use hand tools and have good hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work independently and perform the job with minimum supervision.
- Work in varying positions from time to time, including standing and/or sitting for portions of the shift.
- Move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
- Follow all safety and environmental rules that apply, including the use of safety and personal protective equipment as mandated under some conditions.
- Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
- Must be able to perform duties in a modern climate-controlled facility supporting turbine engine component repair and surface preparation tasks.
