Job Description
The Blast Operator is responsible for performing abrasive blasting operations on turbine engine components to remove surface contaminants, using various equipment and media, while following safety protocols and work instructions to ensure quality and safety in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure compliance with company policies
- Perform blast techniques on turbine engine components using various equipment and media
- Prepare parts for blasting through masking and taping
- Set up and operate blast machines according to work instructions and specifications
- Secure supplies, tooling, and blast products prior to operation
- Inspect and maintain blast equipment regularly
- Clean, adjust, and maintain equipment using hand tools
- Utilize overhead cranes and lifting equipment for handling parts
- Follow written and verbal work instructions accurately
- Communicate work-related issues with supervisors or other departments
Requirements
- Two years work experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience with and or a familiarity with pressure gauges.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic shop math, including working with decimals and fractions.
- Possess a solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand step-by-step processes from the reading of work instructions.
- High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
- Ability to learn the proper use of hand-tools while demonstrating good eye-hand coordination.
- Careful attention to detail.
- Capable of handling multiple tasks.
- Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
- Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform a variety of blast techniques on turbine engine components using equipment such as high pressure air, blast tank, and other types of equipment.
- Perform masking and taping to prepare parts for blasting and perform actual blasting operations using materials such as aluminum oxide, plastic grit, and wet blast.
- Set-up and operate blast machines and associated equipment to work instructions and manufacturer specifications.
- Secure supplies, tooling, and blast product prior to commencing operation.
- Perform routine inspections of blast equipment.
- Clean, adjust, and maintain equipment using hand tools.
- Utilize daily overhead crane and lifting equipment.
- Follow written and verbal instructions accurately by reading and interpreting work instructions in various formats.
- Communicate all work-related problems and issues with supervisors or other departments in a timely and efficient manner.
- Work in varying positions, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift.
- Move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
- Work in enclosed spaces.
- Use of safety and personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, TyVek jumpsuit, supplied air respirator, safety toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection as required.
- Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing, vision exam, and respirator fit test.
- Occasionally use powered and non-powered hand tools.
