Job Description

The Thermal Spray Technician Level I is responsible for applying thermal spray coatings to turbine engine components using manual and CNC techniques, following safety and quality standards, and participating in training to develop technical skills in a modern aerospace repair facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines during thermal spray operations
  • Interpret work instructions and shop drawings to ensure proper coating application
  • Inspect and prepare parts for thermal spray, including cleaning, masking, and blasting
  • Set up and operate thermal spray equipment according to work instructions
  • Select and apply specified coatings manually or via CNC processes
  • Handle coatings in accordance with safety, quality, and security policies
  • Remove masking and prepare parts for subsequent processes after coating
  • Maintain and perform daily checks on thermal spray equipment
  • Conduct process tests and use gauges to ensure correct coating application
  • Document work performed and maintain process records

Requirements

  • A minimum of 18 months of experience in a manufacturing environment or similar.
  • Able to use measuring devices such as scales, micrometers and dial indicators, go no-go gauges etc.
  • Experience in reading shop drawings and work instructions and the documentation of work performed.
  • Previous experience in the operation of overhead cranes.
  • General experience using files and other hand tools to remove sharp edges from metal surfaces.
  • High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
  • Familiar with or able to learn basic shop math.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to use hand tools and have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work independently and perform the job with minimum supervision.
  • Work in varying positions from time to time, including standing and/or sitting for portions of the shift.
  • Able to move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
  • Able to move less heavy parts weighing 50 pounds with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
  • Use of safety and personal protective equipment as required, including respirator fit test and vision exam.
  • Pre-employment testing requirements including fitness for duty testing, respirator fit test, and vision exam.
  • Use powered and hand-held tools frequently in the work process.
  • Ability to interpret and follow work instructions and shop drawings to ensure proper thermal spray process application.
  • Inspect and prepare parts for thermal spray coatings, including cleaning, masking, blasting, and other processes as required.
  • Set up and operate thermal spray equipment in accordance with work instructions, including manual or computer-controlled processes.
  • Select and apply specified coatings in accordance with safety, quality, stock control, and security policies.
  • Handle all coatings safely and in compliance with established policies.
  • Remove masking after coating and prepare parts for subsequent processes as necessary.
  • Maintain equipment, including performing daily checks and completing logbooks or records when required.
  • Frequently perform process tests for quality control and use handheld gauges to measure parts during coating to ensure correct application.
