Job Description
The Senior Distributed Systems Engineer will design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable distributed computing systems to support geothermal exploration research, collaborating with scientists and engineers to advance renewable energy technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver a reliable distributed compute system for geothermal research.
- Maintain and scale existing multi-physics well-targeting engine.
- Collaborate with geophysicists, geoscientists, seismologists, and engineers to solve complex problems.
- Learn the domain and identify system improvements for scalability and reliability.
- Teach and share expertise in distributed systems engineering with team members.
Requirements
- Experience in designing and delivering reliable distributed compute systems that meet the ongoing needs of scientific research teams.
- Ability to learn and understand existing systems, identify how to migrate the system for scale and reliability, and contribute to system growth.
- Proven leadership skills to act as a trusted leader within a team developing and maintaining complex systems.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with geophysicists, geoscientists, seismologists, and engineers.
- Experience in teaching or mentoring others in distributed systems engineering, and willingness to share critical skills and knowledge.
- Full-time, salaried employment with a commitment to working in Salt Lake City, Utah, in a hybrid work environment.
- Educational background or experience sufficient to develop and maintain multi-physics well-targeting engines and related systems.
