Job Description

The Controller will lead the global accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and supporting strategic transactions, while building and managing a talented finance team to support Sword Health's growth and public readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the global accounting foundation ensuring US GAAP compliance, revenue recognition, and multi-entity consolidation.
  • Manage month-end close processes, general ledger integrity, intercompany transactions, and financial reporting accuracy.
  • Maintain internal controls and policies for public-company readiness and coordinate with InfoSec, IT, and Legal teams.
  • Prepare and lead external audits, managing relationships with auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare financial regulations such as SOC2 and HIPAA.
  • Prepare global financial statements and management reports, partnering with FP&A for insights.
  • Track performance and margins across revenue streams and commercial models, ensuring data integrity in systems.
  • Oversee US and international tax compliance, including VAT, sales tax, income tax, and R&D tax credits.
  • Design and improve scalable accounting workflows across AP, AR, payroll, and spend approval processes.
  • Deploy and optimize financial systems such as ERP, spend management, and travel platforms.
  • Lead and coach a distributed accounting team across US and Europe, building capabilities and talent.
  • Ensure accurate accounting for strategic transactions including equity, debt, and fundraising events.
  • Support corporate structuring and M&A activities, including financial due diligence, tax due diligence, and PPA.

Requirements

  • Owns US GAAP-compliant accounting, revenue recognition ASC 606, and multi-entity consolidation US Europe.
  • Manage month-end close, GL integrity, intercompany transactions, and financial reporting accuracy.
  • Maintain internal controls and policies required for future public-company readiness, coordinating closely with InfoSec, IT, and Legal.
  • Prepare and lead annual external audits and manage relationships with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare-related financial regulations such as SOC2 and HIPAA-related processes.
  • Prepare global financial statements and management reporting, partnering with FP&A to drive insights.
  • Present reporting and control environment updates to the Audit Committee.
  • Support technical accounting research and implementation of new standards.
  • Track performance and margins across multiple revenue streams and commercial models.
  • Partner with Commercial and Revenue Operations to strengthen systems data integrity, including CRM, billing tools, and contract data, and ensure accuracy of utilization-based revenue models.
  • Manage US and international tax compliance, including VAT, sales tax, and income tax.
  • Oversee R&D tax credit processes and documentation.
  • Drive automation and efficiency in tax data collection and filing processes.
  • Design and improve scalable accounting workflows across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, and spend approval.
  • Deploy and optimize financial systems such as ERP, spend management, and travel systems.
  • Lead automation initiatives to reduce manual work and shorten the time-to-close.
  • Lead and coach a geographically distributed accounting team in the US and Europe, building capabilities and developing talent, including recruiting where needed.
  • Ensure accurate accounting for equity transactions, debt financing, and fundraising events.
  • Support corporate structuring and M&A activities, including financial due diligence, tax due diligence, and purchase price allocation (PPA).
  • Applicants must have a legal right to work in the United States, with no immigration or work visa sponsorship provided.
  • Full-time employment with a requirement of regularly working at least 25 hours per week.
