Job Description

The role involves leading process development and scale-up of advanced battery materials, utilizing materials synthesis, characterization, and statistical analysis to enable high-volume manufacturing of innovative lithium-ion battery components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze experiments to optimize product development processes
  • Document and communicate research findings to partners and stakeholders
  • Lead process scale-up from pilot to high-volume manufacturing, ensuring robustness and manufacturability
  • Develop characterization and testing methods to enhance scientific understanding and production quality
  • Identify safety hazards and implement safety improvements in the manufacturing environment

Requirements

  • Masters in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry with 6 years of relevant industry experience, or an advanced degree with fewer years of experience, or equivalent.
  • Expertise in process development, statistical analysis, and advanced data analysis tools such as Python, database mining, and JMP.
  • Experience leading process scale-up and qualification activities across internal or external manufacturing environments.
  • Deep understanding of state-of-the-art material characterization techniques including SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, and Gas Chromatography.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical findings to diverse audiences through verbal, written, and presentation formats.
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a periodic basis.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
  • Ability to operate a glove box to prepare samples.
  • Ability to operate analytical equipment at a bench level.
  • Ability to move items weighing up to 25 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts.
  • Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, and printer in a fixed location.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% to support commissioning and vendor supplier engagements.

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $151,000 to $191,000
Work schedule: Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%
Work environment perks: Onsite work, use of personal protective equipment, operating analytical equipment, moving items up to 25 lbs, extended periods of stationary work
