The role involves securing patents for innovative battery technologies by collaborating with technical teams, drafting patent applications, and supporting patent prosecution efforts to protect Sila's next-generation battery materials.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with technical teams to identify patentable inventions
Conduct invention disclosures intake, identify gaps, and work with inventors to address them
Perform prior art searches and landscape analyses to identify white spaces for new patent filings
Draft patent claims, figures, and specifications in alignment with inventors and IP team
Translate complex experimental data into robust patent applications
Support outside patent counsel in analyzing office actions and developing arguments to defend patentability
Requirements
Bachelor's (BS) degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Physics, or a related field
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO registered patent agent)
At least 5 years of experience in drafting patent applications
Ability to analyze office actions and develop arguments in support of the technical novelty of inventions
Ability to collaborate closely with technical teams to identify patentable inventions and conduct intake of invention disclosures
Experience in conducting prior art searches and landscape analyses to identify white spaces for new filings
Experience in drafting patent claims, patent figures, and specifications aligned with inventors and IP team
Experience in translating complex experimental data into robust patent applications
Strong understanding of patent law, IP strategy, and global filing processes
Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results on time in a fast-paced environment with constantly evolving demands
Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey complex technical information effectively
Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, and printer in a fixed location
