Job Description
The Sr Staff Electrical Engineer will design, implement, and support the electrical infrastructure for a large-scale battery materials manufacturing facility, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant electrical systems to facilitate plant scale-up and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, specify, and deploy industrial electrical systems for the manufacturing facility
- Manage and serve as the primary technical liaison for electrical design work by third-party contractors
- Review and maintain electrical schematics, single line diagrams, panel layouts, and cable schedules
- Conduct or review arc flash analyses and develop equipment specifications
- Analyze vendor proposals for compliance with project and code requirements
- Create electrical work packages for cost estimation and site installation
- Provide technical support during equipment fabrication, installation, startup, and commissioning
- Maintain plant-wide electrical load list and collaborate with the balance of plant team
- Develop and maintain electrical standards, specifications, and design guidelines
Requirements
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering
- 8 years of industry experience in electrical engineering
- Proficiency in designing industrial electrical power systems for hazardous areas with strong familiarity with governing NFPA codes and applicable standards
- Experience in electronics and wiring knowledge including analog signals, AC and DC power fundamentals, control wiring, and diagnostic tools
- Experience generating electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
- Experience with electric power system design, studies, and protective relay applications using ETAP
- Experience with cable sizing and specifying cable tray and conduit routing layouts
- Experience designing, analyzing, and implementing grounding and shielding schemes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both highly technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to develop detailed RFP and equipment specifications for hardware procurement
- Ability to analyze vendor proposals to ensure adherence to project and code requirements
- Ability to create electrical engineering and construction work packages for cost estimation and site installation
- Ability to provide technical support during equipment fabrication, installation, construction, unit startup, and commissioning phases
- Ability to review and maintain single line schematics, electrical schematics, panel layouts, and cable schedules
- Ability to conduct and/or review arc flash analyses
- Ability to manage and serve as the primary technical liaison for all design work performed by third-party electrical engineering contractors
- Ability to maintain plant-wide load list and work with the balance of plant team
- Ability to develop and maintain electrical company standards, specifications, and design guidelines
- Physical ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection daily
- Physical ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
- Physical ability to move long distances such as from building to building and be stationary for extended periods
- Physical ability to reach low shelves or items on the floor
- Physical ability to enter spaces narrower than 3 feet
- Physical ability to climb stairs or over containment walls
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, or printer
- Willingness to travel up to 25%, with potential for increased travel during critical construction and start-up activities
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $172,000 to $215,000 (base pay, subject to factors like education, experience, and skills)
Work schedule: Onsite with up to 25% travel potential during critical construction and start-up activities
Work environment perks: Ability to wear respiratory protection, use personal protective equipment, and operate in spaces narrower than 3 feet
