Job Description
A Battery Engineer responsible for developing and optimizing lithium-ion battery components and full cells through experimental design, data analysis, and collaboration to advance next-generation industrial batteries.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute experiments on pouch full cells, including slurry coating, electrolyte optimization, and cell design
- Perform failure analysis on pouch full and prototype cells to identify root causes
- Apply data analysis, statistical methods, and modeling to interpret test results and inform design
- Communicate experimental plans, results, and insights to internal teams and external customers
- Develop new testing techniques to identify challenges early in the development process
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on technical projects
Requirements
- At least a B.S. in engineering or science and 4 years of experience in batteries or related field, or fewer years for candidates with an advanced degree.
- Strong technical background with experience in lithium-ion batteries including different process steps such as slurry preparation, coating, cell design, and cell tear down.
- Ability to carefully plan and implement multiple projects simultaneously.
- Well-organized and data-driven approach to problem solving and experimental design, driven by curiosity and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using databases and data analysis tools such as JMP, Python, etc.
- Exceptional communication abilities with both internal groups and external customers.
- Ability to develop and execute comprehensive experiments in pouch full cells, covering technical areas including slurry coating, electrolyte optimization, cell design and integration, and electrochemical test methods.
- Experience in performing thorough failure analysis in small pouch full and prototype cells to identify root causes.
- Understanding of lab safety best practices.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, and printer in a fixed location.
- Physical ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
- Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and be stationary for extended periods of time.
- Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection as needed.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $128,000 to $162,000
Work schedule: Up to 10 domestic and international travel
