Job Description

The role involves researching and developing lithium-ion battery electrode materials, scaling prototypes to production, and applying data analysis to optimize battery performance, with a focus on innovation and collaboration in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate the roles of active materials, binder, and conductive additives on Li-ion battery performance
  • Design, develop, qualify, and scale up novel electrode materials and prototypes
  • Apply data analysis, statistical methods, and modeling to interpret test results and inform design iterations
  • Communicate ideas, plans, and results to internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance next-generation battery materials
  • Develop new testing techniques to identify downstream challenges early in development
  • Identify safety hazards and implement safety improvements

Requirements

  • A strong technical background with experience in lithium-ion batteries including different process steps such as slurry, coating, cell design, and cell tear down is required.
  • Direct experience in slurry coating formulation process and their characterizations is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency in using databases and data analysis tools such as JMP and Python.
  • An understanding of lab safety best practices.
  • At least a B.S. in engineering or science and 8 years of experience in batteries or a related field, or fewer years for candidates with an advanced degree.
  • Ability to carefully plan and implement multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate analytical equipment at a lab bench, use a glove box and/or fume hood to prepare samples, and move items up to 25 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, and printer in a fixed location.
  • Willingness and ability to wear personal protective equipment including a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection as needed.
  • Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and be stationary for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10 domestic and international trips.

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $151,000 to $191,000 base pay
Work environment perks: Onsite work, use of personal protective equipment, ability to operate analytical equipment, movement of items up to 25 lbs, travel up to 10 domestic and international trips
