Job Description
A Battery Engineer responsible for developing and testing advanced lithium-ion battery components and full cells, analyzing performance data, and collaborating across teams to bring next-generation batteries for industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute experiments on pouch full cells, including slurry coating, electrolyte optimization, and cell design.
- Perform failure analysis on pouch full and prototype cells to identify root causes.
- Apply data analysis, statistical methods, and modeling to interpret test results and inform design improvements.
- Communicate experimental plans, results, and insights to internal teams and external customers.
- Develop new testing techniques to detect potential challenges early in the development process.
Requirements
- A strong technical background with experience in lithium-ion batteries including different process steps such as slurry, coating, cell design, and cell tear down is required.
- Experience with prototype pouch cells is required.
- Experience with cylindrical and other cell form factors is a plus.
- Ability to carefully plan and implement multiple projects simultaneously.
- Well-organized and data-driven approach to problem solving and experimental design, driven by curiosity and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using databases and data analysis tools such as JMP and Python.
- Exceptional communication abilities with both internal groups and external customers.
- At least a B.S. in engineering or science and 8 years of experience in batteries or a related field; fewer years are acceptable for candidates with an advanced degree.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, and printer.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment including a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
- Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and be stationary for extended periods of time.
- Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection as needed.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10 times as needed.
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $151,000 to $191,000 base pay
Work environment perks: Onsite work, ability to wear personal protective equipment, use of office equipment, and travel opportunities (up to 10 domestic and international trips)
