Job Description
The Research Associate will prepare and characterize lab-scale slurries and electrodes for lithium-ion battery materials, collaborating with engineers to optimize processes and improve electrochemical performance in a fast-paced, safety-conscious laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and characterize lab-scale slurries and electrodes
- Perform experimental slurry mixing and drawdown coating
- Characterize slurries and coatings (e.g., rheometry, particle size, density, stability, mass loading, thickness, resistivity, adhesion, homogeneity)
- Manage accurate records of work using an online sample management database
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot characterization equipment
- Document results and communicate findings to scientists and engineers
- Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and scientists to troubleshoot and resolve issues
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, safe work environment
Requirements
- Bachelor's or equivalent analytical experience with a focus in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field
- Six months of full-time hands-on laboratory experience or equivalent
- Experience with fabrication and characterization techniques such as slurry mixing, drawdown coating, and rheometry is a plus
- Proficient in using electronic documentation and data analysis tools to clearly communicate findings
- Ability to perform lab-scale experimental slurry mixing and drawdown coating
- Ability to characterize slurries and coatings, including rheometry, particle size analysis, density measurement, stability assessment, mass loading, thickness uniformity, resistivity, adhesion, and homogeneity
- Ability to manage accurate records of work using an online sample management database
- Ability to maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot characterization equipment
- Work safely by wearing personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety toe shoes, and understand and respect hazardous materials and processes
- Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection when needed
- Use a glove box and/or fume hood to prepare samples
- Operate analytical equipment at a lab bench
- Move items weighing up to 25 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
- Operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, and printer
- Perform repetitive use of hands and light to forceful handling of material
- Work a regular shift Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $31.73/hr to $41.23/hr, with potential for overtime
Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm
