Job Description
The role involves leading the company's global intellectual property enforcement and monetization strategies, including patent litigation, licensing, and strategic partnerships, to maximize the value of patent assets and support business growth in the clean energy battery industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute global IP monetization strategies through licensing, acquisitions, sales, and partnerships
- Lead patent litigation strategy and manage infringement actions, PTAB proceedings, and ITC investigations
- Negotiate licensing and technology transaction agreements
- Guide patent prosecution activities to align with business strategy and competitive positioning
- Manage trade secret protection programs and employee IP training
- Support IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, investments, and strategic partnerships
Requirements
- J.D. and active bar membership registered to practice before the USPTO
- Technical degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related STEM field
- 10 years of patent law experience, including a mix of law firm and in-house experience
- Substantial U.S. and international IP litigation experience, with proven success in offensive licensing or monetization transactions for high tech products
- Experience managing outside counsel relationships and multimillion-dollar litigation budgets
- Familiarity with federal funding IP requirements such as the Bayh-Dole Act, FAR, DFARS IP clauses, and agency-specific grant terms (preferred)
- Ability to design and execute IP monetization strategies through licensing, acquisitions, sales, and strategic partnerships to generate revenue from patent assets
- Ability to lead global patent litigation strategy and execution, including infringement actions, PTAB proceedings, and ITC investigations
- Experience managing outside counsel, budgets, and settlement decisions related to patent litigation
- Experience negotiating licensing and technology transaction agreements in partnership with corporate development, sales, and the commercial transactions team
- Providing guidance to patent prosecution groups on filing strategy, invention harvesting, and portfolio development to align with business strategy and competitive positioning
- Leading trade secret protection programs, including information classification, confidentiality frameworks, and employee IP training
- Supporting IP due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, investments, and strategic partnerships
- Strong strategic thinking and negotiation skills, with the ability to connect IP decisions to business outcomes
- Executive presence with the ability to communicate complex technical and legal matters to executive and board audiences
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $229,000 to $290,000
Work schedule: Onsite with travel up to 25%
