Job Description

The R D Test Engineer at Sila is responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing experiments on battery materials and processes to generate critical data for scale-up and development, working closely with cross-disciplinary teams to drive innovation in battery technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments on lab and pilot scale equipment
  • Develop and implement experimental plans to investigate equipment design, process conditions, and material interactions
  • Identify failure modes and root causes, and develop robust solutions
  • Manage and optimize test platforms to ensure high performance
  • Conduct data analysis and interpret experimental results to inform scale-up decisions
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on R&D projects, including planning and communication of results

Requirements

  • At least a B.S. in engineering or physical sciences (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Physics), with advanced degrees preferred.
  • Four (4) years of relevant professional experience; an advanced degree such as MS or ME may substitute for a portion of the required experience.
  • Experience conducting or leading experimental R D projects, including test planning, experimental design, preparation, execution, analysis, and communication of results.
  • Exceptional laboratory testing aptitude with intuition for what will work and ability to execute quickly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience with complex reactive or thermo-mechanical systems such as reactors, generators, catalytic systems, flow cells, or similar machines/processes.
  • Understanding and proven application of mechanical, process, and materials engineering principles including heat, flow, structures, thermodynamics, kinetics, and materials.
  • Experience with data analysis and sufficient language knowledge, or polyglotism, to navigate data platforms in Python.
  • Experience with developing and deploying new instrumentation and measurement systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in electronics, wiring, and instrumentation including analog signals, AC and DC power fundamentals, control wiring, and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience implementing lab or field-deployed electronics, sensors, and actuators.
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection daily.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
  • Ability to move items weighing up to 50 lbs with lift equipment and carts.
  • Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Ability to reach low shelves or items on the floor.
  • Precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, or printer in a fixed location.

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $128,000 to $162,000
