Job Description
The Senior Manager of BESS Operations oversees the performance, safety, and reliability of Battery Energy Storage Systems within SB Energy's portfolio, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors to ensure optimal operation and continuous improvement in renewable energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations and ensure operational readiness of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) assets.
- Establish and manage monitoring, issue triage, and corrective actions for BESS performance.
- Coordinate troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of fix-forward plans with OEMs and service providers.
- Manage relationships with OEMs and service providers to ensure SLA compliance and warranty resolution.
- Monitor and analyze BESS performance data to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure BESS operations comply with safety, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Support operational readiness planning, including HOTO processes and transition of operations from commissioning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align dispatch strategies and lifecycle objectives.
Requirements
- BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience leading BESS operations for 5 or more years
- More than 10 years of Renewable Energy experience
- Working knowledge of electrical standards and ability to interpret electrical drawings, single-line, three-line diagrams, and system schematics
- Familiarity with common BESS subsystems, controls stack BMS EMS PCS, and SCADA integration concepts and BESS KPIs
- Strong analytical and diagnostic capability using operational data to identify performance issues and guide corrective actions
- Familiarity with BESS OEMs, technologies, system architectures, and operating models available in the industry
- Experience coordinating vendors, OEMs, and managing field execution through third-party providers
- Location proximity to Redwood City, Denver, San Diego, or Austin, or willingness to work remotely with travel to sites in SBE operating portfolio as needed
- Ability to travel to sites in SBE operating portfolio for HOTO, major corrective actions, performance investigations, audits, and stakeholder meetings
- Experience supporting regulatory safety code considerations for utility-scale storage projects, including NFPA 855 and UL 9540A standards
