A Power Systems Software Engineer responsible for developing and validating high-fidelity power flow models, integrating utility data, and building scalable solutions to improve grid interconnection processes and support renewable energy integration.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain high-fidelity power flow and optimal power flow models
Validate model outputs against real system measurements in collaboration with utility customers
Design and optimize solver architecture for accuracy and computational performance
Build tools to visualize and translate model outputs into actionable insights
Integrate utility datasets such as GIS, ADMS, and time series data into the platform
Identify and resolve computational bottlenecks in large-scale grid simulations
Requirements
Masters or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline with 5 years of industry experience deploying power systems models for real world applications
Strong foundations in power systems concepts, methods, and convex non-convex optimization solvers for distribution grids
Experience working with large utility datasets such as GIS, SCADA, AMI, and network models
Experience with OpenDSS or other open source or commercial power flow modeling software
Ability to translate complex mathematical formulations into production-ready code
Strong Python skills; ability to write clean, maintainable, production-ready code, not just analysis scripts
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Comfortable operating with autonomy in a small team, balancing speed of delivery with engineering discipline that production-grade software demands
Work schedule: Flexible PTO, fully remote workplace with options for in-office work in the Bay Area
Work environment perks: Comprehensive benefits including FSA and 401k
Additional benefits: A real impact on climate change, opportunities to work on technically interesting power systems modeling, collaborative team environment
