Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer-Data Center will design, oversee, and optimize electrical systems for hyperscale data centers, solar, and energy storage projects, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and manage electrical engineering design standards for quality, presentation, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Design and deliver electrical systems for hyperscale data centers, including power distribution, backup, and emergency systems.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with industry codes and standards such as NEC and IEC.
  • Provide electrical design oversight throughout the data center lifecycle from concept to commissioning.
  • Lead and manage large-scale, multi-site electrical engineering projects across regions.
  • Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate electrical systems with overall data center infrastructure.
  • Review and optimize electrical system designs, including LV, MV, substations, and interconnection systems.
  • Support field engineering, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Develop and support electrical specifications, equipment selection, and vendor management.
  • Design and manage data center white space, including rack layout, power requirements, and cable pathways.
  • Research and evaluate new electrical design materials, methods, and emerging technologies for data centers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working in Electrical Engineering for data centers or Utility-scale solar and storage power plants.
  • BSEE specializing in Power Systems from an ABET-accredited University; MS degree is a plus.
  • PE license is a plus.
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to data centers and power generation.
  • Experience with data center design and construction, including design criteria and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated strong engineering, design, and communication skills, and an ability to work in a dynamic team environment to think outside the box and solve traditional problems in new ways.
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Revit.
  • In-depth knowledge of LV, MV collection, transmission line, converters, and HVAC HVDC substation design including substation Protection Control, SCADA, and Telecommunications.
  • Experience in designing electrical building systems for data centers, On-Site Renewable Energy Generation, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), Microgrids, and Energy Storage.
  • Skilled in designing backup power solutions with varying redundancy levels based on data center load criticality.
  • Ability to complete work independently and handle most unique situations autonomously.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong knowledge of data center critical environment electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Experience in designing, integrating, and managing SCADA systems, and strong knowledge of network infrastructure within data centers.
  • Experience in vendor management.
  • Expertise in cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
  • Understanding of industrial and commercial electrical one-lines.
  • Experience with BMS, EPMS control systems, and data collection trending.
  • Experience in developing MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs for systems operations.
  • Knowledge of data center PUE and its derivation, as well as data center redundancy requirements at the network and power levels.
  • Travel availability up to 20% domestically and internationally.
  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending blueprints and building documentation.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
