Job Description

The role involves architecting and leading the development of real-time, data-intensive systems focused on global fleet sustainability, energy monitoring, and electric vehicle infrastructure, while mentoring engineers and driving innovative solutions to reduce environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and own the technical strategy for Samsara's Sustainability product suite, including energy monitoring and fleet electrification infrastructure.
  • Design and implement real-time, data-intensive systems to improve fuel efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Lead architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and drive alignment on long-term technical vision.
  • Leverage large datasets to solve complex problems such as driver efficiency and sensor signal processing.
  • Operate autonomously to identify, develop, and deploy solutions for challenging technical problems from concept to production.

Requirements

  • Proven impact designing, building, and operating real-time, distributed, fault-tolerant systems at scale, with a systems-oriented mindset and a deep understanding of long-term architectural trade-offs.
  • A history of hands-on contribution at a senior level in software engineering.
  • Experience working with large-scale data processing or machine learning pipelines, including the ability to dive into raw data to find patterns and solve customer problems.
  • Deep sense of ownership and the ability to drive multi-quarter, cross-functional initiatives to completion without waiting for direction.
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy to identify and solve the most challenging technical problems, taking full ownership from initial concept to operational reality.
  • Experience leading the technical strategy for complex, data-intensive systems, including refining raw, inconsistent sensor signals into high-fidelity data for energy monitoring and building infrastructure for fleet electrification.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and shipping production code for real-time systems that directly improve fuel efficiency for customers.
  • Ability to mentor and develop engineers, lead critical architectural decisions, and drive alignment around a long-term technical vision.
  • Strong communication skills to build consensus across multiple product and engineering teams and act as a key technical partner to leadership.
  • Deep understanding of long-term architectural trade-offs and the ability to make pragmatic decisions in a fast-paced, high-stakes shipping cycle.
  • Demonstrated stamina for a relentless build pace and the ability to drive results quickly within a complex, global engineering team.
