Job Description
The role involves leading the end-to-end imaging strategy for Samsara's IoT products, focusing on lens and sensor selection, optical performance, and image stabilization in high-vibration environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality imaging solutions for connected operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate imaging system specifications, including lens sensor selection and optical requirements.
- Design and procure lab equipment such as charts, light booths, and flicker targets for imaging testing.
- Lead the selection, qualification, and integration of lenses to ensure optimal optical performance.
- Develop and tune image quality targets for ISP auto exposure, HDR, and color science in various lighting conditions.
- Define and implement stabilization strategies like EIS to reduce motion artifacts in dynamic scenarios.
- Collaborate with hardware and optical teams to ensure proper sensor and lens alignment and prevent optical degradation during high-G events.
- Manage external partners and internal teams to design, validate, and manufacture high-quality imaging products.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Imaging Optics with deep knowledge of CMOS sensors and ISP tuning, specifically with Sony, ON Semi, or Ambarella.
- Proven experience in managing image stabilization systems such as Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) or Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and characterizing optical performance in high-vibration, high-shock environments.
- Experience shipping automotive or high-end imaging products from bring-up to mass production.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost in imaging system development.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Ability to travel up to 25% when necessary.
- Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
