Job Description
A Senior Software Engineer II responsible for designing and implementing mapping infrastructure, routing, and geospatial services to enhance Samsara's telematics platform, enabling efficient fleet management, safety, and operational insights across large-scale vehicle networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement infrastructure for creating layered map data, map tiles, and supporting services such as map matching, geocoding, reverse geocoding, routing, and route optimization.
- Develop scalable frontend and backend services to support large fleet mapping and navigation solutions.
- Collaborate with product, routing, and safety teams to build and improve maps infrastructure, editors, and data pipelines.
- Translate logistical challenges into scalable software solutions that enhance telematics and mapping platforms.
- Communicate technical work effectively to engineering and product teams, ensuring alignment and feedback.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a software engineer
- Fullstack or backend development experience
- Strong programming coding fundamentals
- Experience designing and architecting large, high-scale systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical discussions with excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to execute in ambiguous environments and deliver customer value
- Experience working with routing, mapping, or navigation products (preferred but not explicitly mandatory)
- Ability and willingness to engage directly with customers when needed
