Job Description
The Compliance Engineer at Samsara is responsible for managing product certification processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing safety standards for electrical and electronic equipment across global markets. The role involves research, documentation, liaising with regulatory bodies, and supporting testing to facilitate product launches worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and stay up-to-date with compliance standards and regulations
- Manage hardware compliance activities for product certification in Mexico and the EU
- Prepare and maintain documentation demonstrating product compliance
- Liaise with regulatory bodies during inspections and audits
- Provide on-site lab support during testing, including troubleshooting and verifying test results
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies
- Train team members on compliance requirements and procedures
- Continuously improve compliance processes and adapt to product lifecycle changes
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, or similar technical discipline.
- 10 years of experience in hardware development.
- 10 years of experience dealing in regulatory processes.
- Demonstrated experience with international product compliance regulations e.g. E-Mark, CE, NOM, IFETEL and product safety standards e.g. UL, C1D2, RoHS, REACH.
- Hands-on experience with cellular and wireless communication technologies.
- Experience handling product compliance, submitting products for global approvals and obtaining certifications.
- Experience and success delivering in a fast-paced development environment.
- Knowledge of electronics and mechanical design and safety.
- Experience overseeing all product-safety aspects of a device’s design from the initial concept to worldwide sale.
- Experience documenting technical requirements extracted from standards.
- Experience working with third-party labs or similar.
- Ability to remain flexible, calm, and creative in the face of uncertainty.
- Responsible for Hazardous location approval of devices C1D1 and C1D2 materials.
- Responsible for preparing and maintaining documentation demonstrating compliance with relevant standards.
- Act as a liaison between the company and regulatory bodies, facilitating inspections and audits.
- Provide on-site lab support during testing, including system configuration, troubleshooting non-compliances and verifying test results.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory test standards and how to apply them to products, including EN 50489-1, EN300 328, EN 301 489-1, IEC 62368, NOM 19, NOM 208, NOM 221.
- Ability to read and understand technical test reports.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Train other team members on compliance requirements and procedures.
- Continuously improve processes to enhance compliance and efficiency.
- Demonstrate ability to understand changes during the product life cycle and its impact on product certifications.
