Job Description

A Scientist II at RES supports ecological restoration projects through fieldwork, data collection, and technical reporting, helping to restore ecosystems and protect natural resources while collaborating with team members and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation, monitoring, and success of ecological restoration projects across diverse ecosystems
  • Conduct fieldwork including vegetation monitoring, wetland delineations, and special-status species surveys
  • Collect, manage, and interpret field data using appropriate equipment and protocols
  • Contribute to technical reporting and draft sections of monitoring reports
  • Coordinate with landowners, agency representatives, and grazers for outreach and project collaboration
  • Assist in evaluating site conditions, regulatory constraints, and project feasibility
  • Enter and analyze field data, interpret site plans, and support project documentation and compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, geology, or a related natural physical science field
  • At least 2 years of experience in fieldwork, sampling, ecological monitoring, or technical writing, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree
  • Proficient in GPS and equipment use such as YSI meters or turbidity sensors, following project-specific protocols and QA QC standards
  • Experience in collecting field data independently and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Skilled in data analysis and technical report writing
  • Comfortable evaluating site conditions and regulatory constraints
  • Familiar with project task tracking and regulatory requirements
  • Working knowledge and understanding of listed species in the State of California

Compensation/salary range: $71,500 - $84,000 USD
