Job Description
The Supplier Quality Engineer at Redwood Materials is responsible for ensuring external components meet quality standards, qualifying suppliers, and supporting the development and production of high-voltage energy storage products through supplier audits, validation, and performance management.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct supplier audits, process assessments, and risk evaluations to qualify new suppliers and ensure readiness for mass production
- Lead PPAP, FAI activities, and define incoming inspection criteria based on part criticality
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to align specifications, tolerances, and process controls
- Manage supplier non-conformances, lead 8D investigations, and verify corrective actions
- Create and maintain supplier scorecards with KPIs such as PPM, delivery performance, and responsiveness
- Support new product introduction (NPI) builds and provide feedback during design for manufacturability (DFM) processes
- Build and maintain relationships with supplier partners to ensure process maturity, reliability, and capacity
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
- A minimum of 4 years of supplier quality experience in high-voltage, power electronics, automotive, or industrial hardware environments.
- Deep understanding of PCBA, harnessing, connectors, and mechanical fabrication processes.
- Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, SPC, DFMEA, PFMEA, and ISO9001 IATF16949 systems.
- Ability to perform supplier audits, process, system, product, and risk assessments to qualify new sources and ensure readiness for mass production.
- Experience leading PPAP and FAI activities and defining incoming inspection criteria based on part criticality.
- Experience managing supplier non-conformances, leading 8D investigations, and verifying the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Ability to create and maintain supplier scorecards with KPIs such as PPM, delivery performance, and responsiveness.
- Ability to support NPI builds and DFM feedback loops with early supplier engagement and pilot line walkthroughs.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% to supplier locations domestically and internationally.
- Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully in accordance with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
- Physical ability to perform essential physical requirements such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
- Ability to work in challenging conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE.
- Willingness to occasionally work weekends, nights, or be on-call as part of the job.
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $136,000 - $184,000 USD
