A Service Engineer at Redwood Materials is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues in Battery Energy Storage Systems, supporting operations and maintenance, and collaborating with engineering teams to improve system reliability and performance in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary technical escalation point for the Operations and Maintenance (O M) organization for complex issues beyond standard procedures
Define escalation thresholds, response expectations, and handoff criteria between O M and Service Engineering
Lead and mentor a team of Service Engineers providing tier-2 and tier-3 technical support
Investigate and resolve complex electrical, controls, software, thermal, and system-integration issues in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Translate operational feedback into actionable requirements for Product, Systems, and R D Engineering teams
Improve system serviceability, reliability, and maintainability through design and process enhancements
Develop advanced service documentation such as troubleshooting guides, decision trees, and service bulletins
Create technical training materials and support the upskilling of the O M team on new systems, upgrades, and known issues
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
7 years of experience supporting complex electromechanical or power electronics systems including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable energy, or industrial systems
Deep understanding of BESS system architecture, including batteries, PCS inverters, EMS, thermal management, and protection systems
Proven experience operating in a tiered support model including Operations and Maintenance (O M), Service Engineering, and Product Engineering
Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully in environments that may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
Essential physical requirements such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing
Occasional work on weekends, nights, or being on-call as a regular part of the job
