Job Description

A Senior Process Engineer at Redwood Materials is responsible for supporting and improving chemical and metallurgical processes related to battery recycling, including process development, plant design, commissioning, and operational support, with a focus on sustainability and innovation in energy storage materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure processes are safe, efficient, sustainable, and continuously improving in collaboration with operations and maintenance teams
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to develop and implement new process plants and equipment
  • Design, test, and operate flowsheets and pilot plants for recycling processes
  • Support process plant design, implementation, commissioning, and ramp-up activities
  • Conduct process trade-off evaluations, studies, and financial assessments
  • Solve complex chemical and metallurgical process problems and improve plant performance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Chemical Plant Operations and/or Design and Commissioning
  • Experience in large-scale industrial processing
  • Operational support and a track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical process problems and making plant improvements
  • Testwork and pilot plant design and operating experience
  • Process modelling experience using HSCSIM, SysCAD, METSIM, and equipment sizing linking testwork and pilot plant operation to real project implementation
  • Experience in process plant design, implementation, installation, commissioning, and ramp-up
  • Ability to work closely with operations and maintenance teams to ensure processes are safe, efficient, sustainable, and continuously improving
  • Ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams to develop and implement new process plants and equipment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Physical ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Willingness to work in a split environment between office and production facility, including extended periods in challenging conditions with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes while protected by PPE
  • Availability to work in occasional weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs
  • Full-time employment status
