Job Description
The Hardware Quality Engineer at Redwood Materials is responsible for ensuring high-quality standards in battery hardware products by developing quality control plans, analyzing manufacturing processes, and collaborating with external partners to drive continuous improvement and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement in-line quality control plans, inspection criteria, and validation protocols at manufacturing sites
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions for field returns, yield issues, and customer complaints
- Build dashboards to track KPIs such as DPPM, RMA rates, test yield, and audit performance
- Drive process capability improvements through SPC, GR&R studies, and statistical analysis
- Define product-level test plans and collaborate with test engineering to ensure coverage of functional and safety requirements
- Participate in Engineering Change Orders and provide quality input during design reviews and process changes
- Support audits for internal, supplier, third-party, and regulatory compliance, and maintain documentation per standards
Requirements
- B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
- 3 years of experience in a hardware manufacturing quality role, ideally with PCBA and HV experience
- Proficiency with 8D, PFMEA, control plans, and ISO standards
- Experience with MES systems, quality inspection tools, and data analytics tools such as JMP, Minitab, SQL, or Python
- Strong ownership mindset, problem-solving ability, and communication skills
- Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully in accordance with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
- Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
- Essential physical requirements such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing
- Occasional work weekends, nights, or being on-call as a regular part of the job
- Occasional travel requirements
