The Mechanical Engineering Lead at Redwood Materials is responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and systems for large-scale renewable energy products, leading a team as the product scales, and collaborating across engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical components and systems for large-scale renewable energy products, including thermal management, enclosures, and structural integration.
Perform mechanical analysis such as CFD and FEA to validate designs and ensure performance under real-world conditions.
Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to ensure seamless mechanical integration into overall system architecture.
Select materials and components in coordination with suppliers to ensure cost-effective, high-quality solutions.
Manage engineering projects to meet goals and timelines, including hands-on design, prototyping, and testing.
Lead and build a mechanical engineering team as the project scales, including recruiting, mentoring, and managing team members.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BS) or Master's degree (MS) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus in batteries, renewable energy systems, or similar large-scale projects.
Proven track record as a senior mechanical engineer, with hands-on design, prototyping, and testing experience in building products at scale.
Proficiency in CAD software, e.g., SolidWorks, and analysis tools such as CFD, FEA, etc.
Experience in the development of tools, infrastructure, and design practices for a growing team.
Ability to perform mechanical analysis including CFD, FEA, thermal, etc., to validate designs and ensure performance under real-world conditions.
Experience in designing critical mechanical components and systems related to batteries, including thermal management, harnessing, enclosures, and structures.
Experience in selecting materials and components, working closely with suppliers and vendors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality solutions.
Ability to lead and execute the mechanical design and development of large-scale renewable energy solutions from concept to deployment, including thermal management, structural design, packaging integration of power electronics, and integration with grid infrastructure.
Ability to act as the primary mechanical engineering expert, driving innovation and solving technical challenges at a large scale.
Experience managing engineering projects in a hands-on capacity to deliver on project goals and timelines.
Experience in recruiting, mentoring, and managing a high-performance mechanical engineering team as the project scales.
Self-motivated and able to manage work in a startup environment, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with all levels of the organization and present to internal and external executives.
