The Senior Technical Program Manager at Planet is responsible for leading complex infrastructure and operations projects, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring the successful execution of technology migrations and system improvements to support the company's satellite data platform.
Key Responsibilities
Drive the execution of complex programs across multiple teams and organizational boundaries.
Develop and manage end-to-end program plans, including schedules, milestones, and risk mitigation.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to facilitate infrastructure and operations projects, including compute and storage infrastructure migrations.
Establish and oversee internal processes, metrics, and communication strategies for project stakeholders.
Partner with infrastructure leadership and engage stakeholders across software engineering, product, security, and corporate engineering.
Manage internal technology releases and high-scale infrastructure system migrations.
Identify dependencies and risks, and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
Translate technical and business requirements into actionable plans and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Requirements
Six (6) years of software development or program management experience in the areas of platform engineering or cloud-based infrastructure.
Experience leading cross-functional projects and migrations across a broad organization.
Experience partnering with engineers to develop and execute change management plans.
Experience with the product life cycle concept through development, launch, deprecation, and end-of-life.
Analytical, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills paired with the ability to communicate findings and recommendations.
Ability to explain analyses and recommendations to business leaders as well as discuss technical trade-offs with engineers.
Ability to balance the tactical day-to-day operations with forward-looking improvements to scale operational efficiencies.
