Job Description
The Director of Project Development leads the execution of solar and energy storage projects in urban and commercial settings, managing site diligence, permitting, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination to ensure successful project completion and scaling within a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of solar and energy storage projects in urban, commercial, and infrastructure-adjacent settings.
- Manage post-contract development execution, including site diligence, zoning approval, discretionary permitting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Coordinate technical aspects, permitting strategies, interconnection, and site use documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to move projects from contract to construction readiness.
- Lead site diligence and permitting efforts for renewable energy generation facilities and battery energy storage systems.
Requirements
- Experience leading the execution of solar and solar energy storage projects located in urban, commercial, and infrastructure-adjacent settings, with responsibility for managing site diligence, zoning approval discretionary permitting, technical coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to take primary responsibility for the scope of project development execution following contract or Letter of Intent (LOI) signature.
- Strong organizational skills and comfort navigating complex jurisdictional environments often with ambiguous or non-existent paths to permits and approvals.
- Experience managing multiple high-touch projects simultaneously with clear communication and attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate closely with internal teams including Corporate Clean Energy Solutions (CCES), Engineering, Preconstruction, Project Management, Legal Title, Structured Finance, and external stakeholders such as site building owners, permitting authorities, and vendors to move projects efficiently from contract to construction readiness.
- Experience leading site diligence and permitting for renewable energy generation facilities and major capital development projects, including battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Proven ability to develop and implement permitting strategies, manage interconnection processes, discretionary approvals, site use documentation, and consultant coordination.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects with clear communication and attention to detail.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and scaling project development and execution processes.
