Job Description

The Field Application Engineer (FAE) at Phoenix Contact acts as a technical liaison, providing expert support in electronic and automation product applications, developing solutions for customers, supporting sales efforts, and promoting the company's offerings through technical consultation, training, and industry engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with sales teams to identify and qualify new business opportunities through technical consultation and solution development
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers, including product demonstrations, application guidance, and troubleshooting
  • Develop and deliver technical training to internal teams, channel partners, and customers
  • Support the integration of company products into customer applications, including system design, configuration, and validation
  • Assist in the development of technical documentation, application notes, and white papers
  • Participate in trade shows, webinars, and customer events to promote solutions and build brand awareness
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to provide market feedback and influence product development
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, project status, and technical issues using CRM and support tools
  • Manage and develop channel partners through joint sales activities, trainings, and mutual action plans
  • Train sales and channel partners on company value proposition and offerings
  • Demonstrate technical competence on all products within the area of focus

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a technical support, application engineering, or field engineering role.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial automation, control systems, or electronic components.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% to support customer engagements and field activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Phoenix Contact’s business solutions.
  • Superior computer skills and Windows-based applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to learn and adapt quickly.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Polished presentation skills.
  • Record of achievement in exceeding sales performance expectations.
  • Strong business development skills, including exceeding expectations of sales calls and opportunity creation.
  • Exhibit leadership skills within the assigned territory.
  • Experience working with distributors is preferred.
  • Must be able to travel via airplane.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate an automobile for up to six hours at a time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs (samples, demos, literature).
  • Must be able to travel overnight up to 35 nights or as dictated by the assigned territory.
  • Must comply with company dress code guidelines.
  • Must maintain regular and on-time attendance.
