Job Description
The Field Application Engineer (FAE) at Phoenix Contact acts as a technical liaison, providing expert support in electronic and automation product applications, developing solutions for customers, supporting sales efforts, and promoting the company's technology and products through technical consultation, training, and industry engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and qualify new business opportunities through technical consultation and solution development.
- Provide on-site and remote technical support, including product demonstrations, application guidance, and troubleshooting.
- Develop and deliver technical training to internal teams, channel partners, and customers.
- Support product integration into customer applications through system design, configuration, and validation.
- Create technical documentation, application notes, and white papers.
- Promote solutions and build brand awareness at trade shows, webinars, and customer events.
- Collaborate with product management and engineering to provide market feedback and influence product development.
- Manage customer interactions, project status, and technical issues using CRM and support tools.
- Train sales and channel partners on product value proposition and offerings.
- Manage and develop channel partners through joint sales activities, trainings, and mutual action plans.
Requirements
- Four-year degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience in a technical support, application engineering, or field engineering role.
- Strong knowledge of industrial automation, control systems, or electronic components.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to support customer engagements and field activities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Phoenix Contact’s business solutions.
- Superior computer skills and Windows-based applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Self-motivated with the ability to learn and adapt quickly.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Polished presentation skills.
- Record of achievement in exceeding sales performance expectations.
- Strong business development skills, including exceeding expectations of sales calls and opportunity creation.
- Experience in working with distributors preferred.
- Must be able to travel via airplane and operate an automobile for up to six hours at a time.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs (samples, demos, literature).
- Must be able to travel overnight 35% or as dictated by the assigned territory.
- Must comply with company dress code guidelines.
- Must maintain regular and on-time attendance.
