A Mechanical Engineer, Marine Operations, responsible for designing, building, testing, and supporting offshore support equipment and systems for deploying and maintaining ocean energy nodes in harsh marine environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and test bespoke support equipment for deployment, retrieval, inspection, and maintenance of offshore assets.
Conduct trade studies to identify optimal system architectures and perform engineering analyses.
Create detailed mechanical designs, including CAD modeling and schematics.
Oversee fabrication, testing, and commissioning of critical mechanical assets.
Support offshore operations through initial system commissioning and sustaining engineering.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BS or higher) in mechanical engineering
At least 5 years of experience in a similar role involving mechanical engineering
Experience owning the development of novel hardware from concept through commissioning
Excellent understanding of engineering fundamentals relevant to marine systems, including welded structures, mechanical assemblies, hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial automation, and data acquisition
Demonstrated ability for solving problems which lack clear examples or well-defined requirements
Capable of managing critical vendor relations
Thrive in a culture of personal ownership
Competent with 3D modeling software and design practices, with Siemens NX preferred
Ability to perform structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Willingness or ability to independently learn the basics of data acquisition and industrial automation systems
Experience with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
Experience overseeing and providing field engineering support during fabrication campaigns
Experience designing and executing qualification acceptance test protocols to validate system performance
Experience designing hardware utilized in an offshore environment
Willingness to travel to vendors and test sites as needed
Ability to intermittently work longer hours and weekends to support critical needs
Ability to travel offshore periodically to support initial commissioning and first use of new equipment
