Job Description
The Director of Development Project Execution leads the site design, permitting, and early project development phases of battery energy storage projects, managing a team to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and ready for construction, while coordinating with executive leadership and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and scale the site design and permitting phase of a portfolio of battery energy storage projects from handover to shovel-ready status.
- Lead a team of project managers, permitting leads, and engineers to develop robust, cost-effective, and compliant project designs.
- Create and execute permitting strategies, negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction, and address high-stakes permitting issues.
- Oversee budgets and schedules related to site design and permitting, ensuring projects meet financial and timeline targets.
- Develop and improve processes, tools, and standards for efficient project development and risk mitigation.
- Supervise the final project handover to the construction team, ensuring a smooth transition to the build phase.
- Report project milestones, risks, and key decisions to executive leadership, maintaining clear communication channels.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team to achieve project development goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.
- A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in a technical project development field such as architecture, engineering, or infrastructure real estate development.
- At least 5 years of experience in a direct leadership role, with a proven ability to manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team.
- Experience in managing all facets of project execution, including detailed design, permitting, schedule creation, and budget adherence, to successfully bring complex projects to a state that is ready for construction.
- Proven ability to operate at a strategic level and communicate effectively with C-suite executives and external stakeholders.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing multi-million dollar development budgets.
